I have owned one of these for 27 years and only now is it showing signs of wear. The zipper is wearing out and the shock cords have lost their elasticity. For a tent that is in use at least nine days a year that is amazing!
Camped for 5 nights in Rocky Mountain National Park with four grown men, all averaging 6 foot tall and about 180 lbs. We all sleep very comfotably. We did not have room for our pack inside though. Did not experience any rain so I can't comment on thnat. For the money and for a 3-4 person tent this is about the best buy you can find. Very easy to set up and take down. First night I set it up at 1am with only a head light in about 3 minutes or less. Weight is less than 9 lbs for everything. Don't think you can find this big and nice of a tent with less weight.
Like others here, I purchased my Timberline in 1976 when I was new to scouting and I'm still using it. I needed to replace the rainfly about 5 years ago after years of UV exposure and since Eureka still makes parts for this long-running model, it was easy to order. New tents have a factory-sealed rainfly and floor but you'll need to treat the other exposed seams in the bottom corners and under the windows. This is standard tent care & maintenance and well worth the short time it takes to seal. Once I've done it...this tent is ready for another year of use. Hands down...one of the finest tent designs there is! I backpack year-round with my original 2-person and car or canoe camp with my newer 4-person version. Happy Trails to All!
I purchased a Eureka Timberline 2 tent when I was 13 years old. I am now 41 and my son is using it on a regular basis. The tent has been used for over a quater of a centry and still does not leak, with proper care. I just bought a new Eureka 1610 for the family and expect the same service as the Timberline 2.
I got this tent when I was 17 years old. I am now 33. It has served me faithfully 17 years in 10 different states, including northern Maine. It's sturdy, and setting it up is easy as pie after the first one. I put a little TLC into this tent every year by putting some seam sealer on it but that's it. I am a big guy, (6 foot 1) and I treat this tent more like a really big two person tent. My two kids and I sleep in this tent with no problem! It fits a queen size airmattress no problem. Eureka is the king of customer service, and many accessories are available. While this tent may seem "plain jane" compared to other tents now available, it's ease to take care of and quick set up make this a great first tent for new comers or a perfect tent for those getting back into the sport of tent camping.

I bought this tent for a friend of mine who enjoys taking her family to the beach and on river outings. The tent was well packaged in a sturdy carrying case. The quality of workmanship and material is very high. We were all impressed with the ease of setup and breakdown. The kids enjoy the spacious interior although I have to duck a lot with my six foot three height. The doormat was a surprising and welcome feature especially for my friend who likes to keep things as neat as possible, even outdoors. Very good buy! I will update this review as time goes by.
i have now used this tent for 3 full summers. actually a little more, since i camp from the end of april to the end of september. in all this time, i experiended only minor leaks. i camped in the sierra nevada at elevations from 5,500ft to 10,000 and the tent held out beautifully against mostly sunny days, but also snow, hail, high winds and rain. this summer though, the 2nd door zipper finally went out. suggestion to coleman, equip your tents with quality zippers to come up to coleman par. i had no pole breaks.
My wife, son and dog camped twice this summer in this tent. Plenty of room for all of our stuff. We bought this tent because we trust Coleman brand and it was the right price for our budget. Tent was great, even in the rain. I recommend it to light campers like us.
This tent is a great tent for camping. It's great because of the way its made and waterproof. Most tents have a fabric similar to the walls for flooring, although this tent has a built in tarp for flooring for no need of a ground cloth. The tents rain fly is bigger then most tents and covers all openings and windows and never leaks. This tent is great for back packing. I highly recomend it to people who love hiking or just love camping.
To start i am an expierenced camper, and an Eagle Scout. I have been camping my entire life. I have camped in 38 states, all in a tent or super old pop-up camper. Over all i think this tent has a great design! However I have been twice disappointed by the tent. I bought my first tent last week, and being cautious customer, i set the tent up to check for any flaws, and unfortunatly, that is where i fount the first one, one of the sleeves on the rain fly had stitching that was pulled out, a night of swift winds would have completely pulled out the stitching. So i exchanged the tent, checked the 2nd one, it was great, i used it last weekend, (Great weather, little wind no rain high 70 low 40), and Sunday when i was about ready for tear down, one of the fiberglass rainfly pole broke, rendering the tent useless. Luckly it was sunday! I plan on giving the tent one more shot, mainly because Coleman is a name i have been trusting for camping my entire life! I hope they will not let me down!
Took the tent out for the first time this weekend was treated to the typical Idaho weather patterns. Friday sun shine and cool with a brisk wind. Saturday hot and still during the day and a storm rolled in at night. The tent performed beautifully. Set up took my wife and I about 15 minutes, everything is straight forward and easy to set up. We were able to fit 2 queen sized air mattresses and a portable crib across the tent and had a 3X12 section of floor space totally empty. The tent did come with the crappy plastic stakes, but I have ordered MSR groundhogs as replacements. I did experience one failure on the tent. The corners attach to the frame with metal hooks, and one broke. I have already contacted Eureka and they are sending me out a replacement. The tent kept up high and dry in the nasty rain and even performed better than my friends REI Hobitat 4. This is due to the rain fly that can be set to cover 3 of the 4 sides completely. In other reviews of this tent, people have not liked the "Fan Door" I however loved it. I do need to alter the bottom to completely seal the tent from possible wandering critters, but this is acceptable due to the convenience of having a door that my 3 year old can open and close by himself without problems. If you have kids, this door is the only way to go. The tent is heavy, and it takes up about 12"X12"X36" stored, and it is difficult to find a semi flat surface for a 10'X12' tent. In the end, I could not be happier with this tent. If you have a family and don't mind transporting a large tent, I would recommend you buy this.
The fan door just is not a good design, it kept blowing in at the top in a moderate wind in the middle of the night and no way to fasten it but one hook for the whole thing and the bottom is open to anything that wants to push its way in. It would be nice if it had a zipper you could close at night for a positive clousere. I am returning the tent.
We needed a new tent and so we took a chance and looked on line for one. We are a family of 5 so the size was important. We also have 3 children so the Pine Lodge appealed to us because of the "fan style" door.
This tent is HUGE and is SO nice to stand inside and not have to hunch over. There are 4 decent sized windows. There is the "fan" door and there is also another door opposite the fan door. I think it is important to note this as I am sure that will help with ventilation. Not to mention there is another way to enter the tent and you can tie back the solid pieces of fabric on the outside to let in light etc.
The only issue we have with this tent is the appealing "fan door". The door does NOT secure at the bottom. It actually does not secure anywhere, although there is a decent sized over lap around the front where the fan doors passes through. We hope it keeps rain out. There is one place on the inside that it appears you can strap the door down from the inside. However, we have gone on MANY camping trips and know the squirrels alone could get into the tent if they wanted. Not to mention bugs etc. We decided to keep the tent because of the size, price, and the "fan door!" BUT I went to a local fabric store and got 60 inches of 2 inch wide industrial strength Velcro. I ran the Velcro along the bottom of the fan door and the bottom of the tent hoping we can at least secure the bottom from unwanted visitors. NO one in neighboring campsites will want to hear my kids screaming when they find a visitor in their sleeping bag :) We will see how that holds up. So this is why I am only giving it 4 out of 5 stars. It is the door that sold me on it and the door that I am wondering about. Otherwise this looks like it will be a great purchase, and I hope it lasts us many trips.
I used the tent 2 times and the zipper broke. I had trouble with the zipper the first time, but the second time it completely broke.
I threw it in the dumpster as I left the campsite. I have upgraded to a Kelty Green River.
I can not rate this tent because I feel I got cheated;I had purchased an Eddie Bauer 10 man tent last year and used it for the first time this past summer it rained and you can watch water coming in through the zippers.I have talked to the manufacture and got nowhere;also the room separaters you can see right through them;do not bother putting them up.I started reading other reviews and gettig a conclusion that eddie bauer tents suck
This tent has sheltered us from The Rockies to The Great Lakes for almost 3 years. Through wind, rain and cold, it has kept us dry. The ventilation is good with all of the windows as well during warmer spells. It's not very spacious, but it works perfectly for my husband and me, our bags and our air mattress.
I have used this tent 5 or 6 times. Zippers always get stuck and the fly construction is terrible. If you plan to camp only durning spring or summer in perfect conditions, then for the price it is just okay. Shop around!
This tent did the trick! We took a couple of trips this summer and the tent is easy to set-up, and did not leak in (light) rain. I'm not a die-hard camper, so I wouldn't know how this tent compares to more expensive ones. With all of our gear, it fit 2 adults and 2 kids pretty comfortably--any more gear or people would have been too crowded. Good value for the $.
We decided to give this SUV & Minivan Sport Tent a shot. We are heavy into tent/car-camping and we love the interior space of a large tent.
Although we are very happy tent campers we do crave more amenities and options from a tent. This is why we selected the Sport Tent. What we like about it is it's ability to utilize the amenties found in our vehicle while still being in the cocoon of a large comfortable tent.
Our vehicle has DVD and Audio components that we can use as well as several rear power output ports for inflating air mattresses and zillions of other cool and useful gadgets that requires a power source.
You can sit or sleep in either the vehicle or the tent simultaneously. We now watch movies and listen to music with state of the art audio and video clarity without disturbing our neighbors. We utilize the vehicles wireless headphones in case one of us wants to sleep while the other stays up grooving to tunes and video. We can use the vehicle's rear power ports right inside the tent. You can't beat this and we can still camp anywhere, especially in the more remote and pristine areas where those big RVs and long travel trailers cannot get to.
This tent works for us and we recommend it.
About what you would expect for this price of tent. Light weight, easy set up and packs small. Not sure how sturdy the waterproof base will prove.
The temt is easy to set up and I love that the vestibules keep gear out of the tent but also out of the elements.
I used this tent while doing field research for 3 1/2 weeks straight. With set up and take down occuring every 3-4 days. It worked great and was sized perfectly for holding myself and my gear. Easy set up/take down and lightweight. The design was great for wind and rain resistance. During a storm with 45mph gusts my Eureka Apex 2XT stood its ground with no problem while my colleagues watched their tents bend and collapse. The only difficulty I had was reaching the zipper on the fly, when wanting to open the fly from the inside of the tent. The zipper on the fly is closed when the zipper pull is at the furthest point away. Nonetheless, that was a small aggravation considering the overall quality for the money. Great product.
had a blast in this little tent - my boyfriend and i traveled all over australia in it - its easy to set up light to carry and if its dry out you can sleep with the fly off and have great views and tons of fresh air! it still doesnt have any holes in it!
I've used this tent for about 20 of the past 30 days in many different environments. Many of those days it was raining, and I'm happy to say that the tent stayed bone-dry. It seems durable too, no rips or breaks yet. It has been sleeping myself and my travel companion. Its an intimate fit, so if you like to spread out when you are sleeping, it will better sleep one person. The color can be a little obnoxious, but I'm not the kind of person to rate a utility product on aesthetics.
This tent is advertised as being able to sleep 4 people.......true, but not if they each have a pillow, duffle bag, etc. This tent sleeps two adults comfortably. There is room for a queen size air matress in the middle and room for a duffle bag each on the sides. There is also room for a small cooler, lantern and radio. That is about it. And if you do use the air matress don't plan on being able to stand up because the only head room is right in the center (as in most tents I suppose). Ours has held up in some pretty heavy rain. The only water that got in was from us having to come in and out. It would be nice if the rain fly were a big larger in the front to protect against this. But if you are looking for a good starter tent that won't break the camping budget this tent is great.
My family has three of these, a great tent. I like that I can set up a low chair and read in my tent comfortably during bad weather. I don't care for the rain fly "wings" but both my dad and brother don't mind them and like the space. We all really like the double doors.
I have used this tent camping about once a month year round as a scout leader and I love this tent. Quick set up and sturdy. I camped in 30 mile per hour gusts in Galena, IL and never even knew how windy it was outsite. Water tight also in the driving rain we had. I would highly recommend it.
