Reviews
I bought this to play videos in the car for my 3 yr old. Worked good. At one point I had to set it at a 10 degree angle because it was making some rubbing noises and freezing the picture. Only happened once so far though.
Not bad for the price.

It's been almost two weeks since I purchased this Toshiba product. I wanted to get the Sony portable since it looks "cooler" and I read good reviews about the Sony's battery life but I ended up getting this one because it was cheaper.
So far so good, better than expected indeed, it's a 7' screen so smaller than the Sony and hence more practical.
The control keys are very friendly (in contrast to the Sony), the remote is slim and very light.
The voice volume is very acceptable, the screen resolution isn't bad at all.
The only issue I guess would be -as expected- the battery life (little bit shorter than the claimed 2 hours) but I carry the cords with me most of the time so it's not that bad.
The device doesn't have an intrinsic mechanism to hook it to a car seat or something, but you can buy the 7-inch "case logic" case (around $15) where the device can sit and be operated while mounted almost anywhere.

Overall not a bad deal at all for the amount of money you're paying.
Hope this review was helpful ?!
Great Picture quality.High resolution. Good sound(on ear phone). Not so good look.I have plyed only DVDs yet. Worth its price. I think, 7" is little bit small screen. Try 8" player.it should be of same pict resolution. ShashidharAM , Bangalore, INDIA
Purchased the DVD player as a birthday gift for my five year old daughter. It is compact easy to use, has a great picture and incredible sound quality. The DVD player is sturdy without being too heavy and the batteries last at least three hours.
I too was fooled by online retailers touting this as a divx certified player, it IS NOT, it's a decent player but does not support Divx.
I purchased this tablet style dvd player today for the use of my 3 year old in the car. The volume is typical for a portable player, but better than the venturer dual screen dvd player that we've been using for the past two years. We use headphones if the volume becomes a factor. After charging the battery for approximately 4-5 hours, I hooked up the unit in the car. The buttons function well without too much explanation and it includes a "reverse" mode for the on screen picture in case you need to mount it upside down. However, it seems that the remote control is necessary in order to work through a normal dvd menu. Next, previous, pause and stop are available on the front of the unit as well as a mode button to adjust brightness, contrast, etc. Loading a disc is awkward unless you remove the unit from the headrest mounting case. However, the case mounts well in our Toyota Sienna.

A good feature on this player is the compact Lithium Ion battery unit and the fact that the unit switches to battery power when the ignition is off. Our previous player lost power and the movie would need to be restarted after a gas stop or if we had to switch off the ignition for any reason.

For the price, I'm happy so far. I'll update later on durability.
Worked for about twenty minutes out of the box, then died. Picture seemed in keeping with other players I've seen. Remote functionality was disappointing. The handset didn't communicate with the unit unless you held it inches from the player's IR port and the soft-touch buttons didn't give any tactile feedback. Sound was disappointing in both tone and volume. Tinny and hard to hear against road noise in our car, which is a very quiet ride on most roads. The rubberized "Light Absorbing Technology" (LAT) is an absurd and obvious gimmick. It made no noticeable difference in picture quality, brightness, etc. It would provide a better grip, though, if you wanted to throw the player at anyone nearby. The coating would also work well to attract dust, lint, hair, fur, etc. For $5 more I replaced this with a Phillips DCP750/37. I'm very happy with that player.
I would NOT recommend purchasing this. The DVD player worked very well for the first few times I used it but probably the 6th time I used it, it cut off to static during the middle of the movie and now will not read any DVDs. It turns on for about 5 seconds and loads as if nothing is wrong then just craps out. With so many options on the market it would be smart to pick another DVD player!!!
Overall the its an OK player, but what turned it from a 5 star rating to a 2 is product detail by Amazon. I looked high and low for weeks for a 7" screen dvd player with hi-resolution which Amazon's descriptions claims this to be. Under the specification it says the screen is a 720x480 but when I got my player and measured it out, it was only 480x234 at best. Now I know some retailers would describe a 480x234 as 1440x234 to make it look better than it really is, but I purchased this from Amazon thinking they of all people would have the right specs. Lesson learned, can't trust anyone's specs.
I needed an easy to use, easy to carry and easy to use via battery DVD player and that is what I got.
Bought in April, broken by August (stopped reading discs). Even by the standards of these cheap Chinese DVD players, this one was flimsy.
The build quality was suspect -- the auto adapter had a very long thin wire instead of thicker, more durable cord. It was impossible to use the car charger with battery backup, so that when you turned off the car, the movie restarted unless you were using battery (and when the battery was dead, you couldn't switch power sources without restarting the disc).
I had better luck with the Coby.
this is my first portable dvd player. for months i did an online search looking for the best buy for my money. i read several reviews regarding
portable players, and noted complaints about small screens, bad audio, not the sharpest picture, etc, so i was not even sure i wanted to buy one of these type units....however i came across the axion, studied the wonderful reviews and decided to buy it....

WHAT AN AWESOME MACHINE THE AXION IS.....

i am quite comfortable watching the 7" screen, the picture is clear and sharp, the audio is more than adequate without earphones, keeping in mind that i do not use it on an airplane, have not used the remote yet, but the controls on the unit are very easy to use.

the battery last two hours, most times i use it plugged into a wall outlet anyway. right now i am on vacation with no regular dvd player available, last evening i was able to hook up this axion to the tv and watch the dvds on a larger screen, but keep in mind that to do this you also need an extra cable (the one with the prongs that hook up into the 3 different colors on the TV, dont know what it is called) this cable is not supplied by axion, so have one available to hook up to the tv, the other end (prongs) are hooked up to "the cable axion does supply".

i have had this unit for a month now, so at this time i cannot attest to longevity of the unit, i will post again at a later date, but i can tell you at this point in time the axion was well worth the money.
I bought this for my husband for Christmas and it was the best gift ever. Not only does he love it, I love it too! Excellent quality; good picture and great sound. I love the ipod dock, such a great feature. PLus this is a sharp looking machine. The price is good too, I saw some in the stores over the holiday for $50+ more.
I received this a few weeks ago. I was looking for something that could read created dvd's as well as the ipod and regular movie dvd's. So far, it's worked great with all three. It's worked hooked up to the TV for regular viewing as a dvd player and worked well by itself.
After experiencing this product for about a month, I am quite happy with it overall, but there a few disappointments.

1 - I can listed to my IPod music, but IPod video does not work (see other comments), as I have a 3rd generation IPod Nano.

2 - I have to put a piece of cardboard underneath the IPod Nano to make it fit into the docking bay.

Otherwise it works great and is very versatile.
... and there is an easy hack to make it work for all regions.

Since I did not really buy this to view videos from the IPod, I still give it 4 stars.

This product is just excellent. It is what I needed. I am now able to watch TV shows from my IPOD.

It has all features of a DVD player. I am very impressed with this product. I hope Philips continues to make products that also include an IPOD docking station.
After my daughter dropped her Durabrand 9" portable DVD player it was time to shop for a new one. I was unable to locate a new Durabrand 9". The Philips 7" was on sale for under $100 so I decided to go with a well established brand name. At the same time I decided to test the 7" Durabrand. The Philips is much lighter and seems of poorer quality than the Durabrand. The sound comparison is incredible! The difference in quality from Durabrand to Philips was hands down in favor of Durabrand! The Philips sound is tinny and gives terrible static noise. The controls for Stop, On/Off, and Volume on the Philips were all poorly located and difficult to find and operate. I would not recommend the Philips and that surprises me. I had really hoped to be able to play iPod videos and home movies from my SD card but I'll wait until someone improves on the quality of these players and the cost is below $200.
I bought this DVD player for our trip to Disney. The unit worked as expected and we had no problems there.
The surprise came after 4 months using this player a few minutes a day in the car. The DVD would take a LOOONG time to load and sometimes the video would freeze for a few seconds. I tried several DVDs, all ORIGINAL! At some point this device just gave up. I can't get it to play anything. It just gets stuck on the "Loading..." screen.

After trying to contact Audiovox for a warranty repair I had an unpleasant surprise when I found out that Audiovox only gives a 90 day warranty on their products. Aside from the fact that their website is useless when it comes to getting warranty information, their customer service reps were almost laughing when I mentioned "Warranty repair". I paid $100 dollars for this P.O.S. and they wanted to charge me $75+2 way shipping for repairs. That's just ridiculous...

Audiovox, say goodbye to my business as I say goodbye to this crappy and disposable DVD you sold me.
Great for road and flight trips. The black carrying case strap is an absolute joke. Did not even last through three uses. Otherwise, highly recommend. For the money, you are getting a solid product that keeps the kids happy while mom and dad try to drive and or sleep. I am most impressed by its durability...we have dropped it twice in the car and it does not skip when the kids are fighting over who gets to hold it. It is also compact and light. Easy to carry around.
We love the dual headphone jack and 2 pair of headphones. Only complaint is that without the headphones, the volume does not go up high enough and is hard to hear over car noise even at full volume.
I love this! I take it with us whenever we are traveling by auto, and to dialysis to pass the time. The picture quality is wonderful. Although it has to be tilted the right way during sunlight hours. The sound volumn could be a bit better when not using the earphones, but overall I am very pleased with my purchase.
i bought this in march and by july it quit working....will never by another one of this brans...should have stuck with the brands i know. Have had polorid portable dvd player now for 2 years and NO problems at all.
When I first purchased this portable DVD player I was quite pleased with it. The picture was clear and the sound came thru nicely. However, after just 6 months of use, it just stopped working. It keeps telling me "no disc". It has only been used by my daughter while sitting in the car so it has not been dropped or abused in anyway.
Now I know why it was on sale. I won't buy this brand again.
Sorry to say, my husband has not even unpacked this DVD player! He wasn't too happy that our daughter bought it. We both told him to hurry up & make up his mind whether we should return it, but he hasn't done that either...

Sorry I can't do better than this.

Bought this 3-4 years ago before Portable DVD players became really popular. (I paid like $250+ for it.) It has taken a beating from my 3 yr old..kicking it many, many times, dropping it, etc. and it just keeps going. We mostly use it in the van, but also use the plug in adapter once in awhile. We've never used the battery. It has never skipped (only if the DVD is dirty so not a player problem). The only problem we are having right now is we need a new car adapter and will order one. I bought a second player for my older DD so she can watch her own movies (a Panasonic-only because it was really cheap) so I hope that one lasts just as long. I basically just use mine in the car. There were times that it didn't cut on, but I never power it off so what we do is turn the power button off and then back on and it's good to go. We really got our money's worth.
My mom bought this DVD player for my kids this past Christmas. She paid $179, with the promise of a $30 rebate. It stopped working after a month. It runs and runs but nothing appears on screen. Unfortunately, she had purchased it two months in advance of giving it, so that the 90-day warranty had just run out. I called the company and explained that we had only had it since December. After a lot of back and forth, the only solution they offered is for me to give them $49 to fix it, or $79 to replace it. I would rather put $79 towards a real name-brand DVD player. (And the rebate has yet to arrive, two months later...)
Sound and Picture clarity is good, I dislike the batery usage, not good for more than 2.5 hours movie.
I'm not sure what all the bad reviews are for this unit has lasted me for years and that's with an 11 year old playing it to death. I really do get tired of Sony haters filling up all the reviews with bad data.
I got this for Christmas 3 years ago and have been using it almost every day since them for over 2 hours. The sound quality is not so great in the car, but thats what headphones are for! Mine stopped working the other day though, I wish sony had a better support program though. If anyone knows how to stop the 'No Disc' error, please contact me at [...]

This DVD player is great, even if I got a few errors, but those are easily remedied. The only 2 problems are that there is not volume control on the remote and fast forward/slow buttons on the actual DVD player.

I recommend this DVD player for those who can take care of it and take it on trips, planes, and for universal use in the home environment.
I got this item as a gift and it worked for only one DVD. When I tried to charge it up again later, the charge wouldn't take. I sent it back to Sony and two weeks later, was told that a new battery would cost $225 (and no, they wouldn't waiver on it despite the fact it was a gift and I had no receipt). I'm not going to waste any more time with Sony and will look elsewhere for a replacement. I hope Amazon yanks this product from their site.
I have had the player for approximately one year and hardly ever used it. I have played about 10 DVD's on it and when I got it out to use it the other day I started watching a movie and the screen all of a sudden froze. I tried to push fast forward, pause, and play and the player did nothing. I turned it off and back on and now all I get is No Disc or Disc Error on the screen. I believe the player should have been capable of playing at least a thousand DVD's before a failure. I kept the player in a case in my closet so it wasn't setting out in direct sunlight or anything. I am very disappointed in this product and have written Sony about it. I will have to wait and see how well they back the products they sell.
I've had this unit 10 months. Firstly, you can't use it without a battery, even if its connected the mains. What a joke. So my first battery wouldn't recharge, and Sony charged me $258 for a new battery. Half what I paid for the whole DVD.
That battery lasts 5 hours, and the system turns off. It won't recharge either. So today, they tell me my power adapter needs exchanging, and thats $158. I tell them to shove it, I'm never buying another piece of junk from this company ever again. I read they are struggling to prevent from going bankrupt. With this terrible service, I'll be happy if they never sell anything to anyone ever again.
Seller mail the wrong item for me, ut still not received respond from the seller, so no commended
I bought this item last month and i was very upset when i saw the image quality. I have another portable dvd player (Initial company) and ther picture quality is wonderful. I am also not happy with the apperance of the item.

We have to user remote for all the functional activites which is again a drawback.
After playing it maybe 5 times, the screen went out and all you get now is sound. Not recommended.
Good product, at a reasonable price. I paid Amazon $95 with free shipping. It works well on airplane trips on a battery. It also works well as a connected DVD player in our bedroom (connected to our TV), where we watch movies only occasionally. Nice touch is the included remote control (credit card size). Excellent quality picture, sound could be a little bit louder.
It was a gift for my son and he was very excited about it and liked it alot. So I was very pleased with my product.
I made the mistake of buying 2 of these poorly manufactured piles of crap. I have had them for only a few months and have not used them very often. Neither of them work. On one of them the swivel piece broke, now the screen just hangs there. The other will not play a DVD without it freezing. I play the same DVDs on better made products and have no problems. To make matters worse Amazon and J&R music (the company they sent me these things) refuse to provide any help. Sure, the thing has a "limited warranty", which I've already used once because one of the batteries would not work. Using the warranty requires the consumer to spend additional money for shipping, just to receive another piece of junk. Both companies should have the decency to take back poor quality products and provide a refund. I will never buy anything from Amazon or J&R music again and recommend you do the same.
Excellent playback, great picture and sound quality. Has Dolby Digital sound mixing. Two well-amplified headphone jacks and speakers. Plays more formats than advertized (DVD-R/RW, VCD, .MPG movies, .Jpg pictures). Comes with tons of accessories. Worth the price.
This portable DVD player has been great for both travel (car) & home use and we've used it for almost 3 years. Both adults & kids have used it heavily & the only thing that has broken is the splitter for the headphones. Easy to use.

The dvd player was used less than 10 times then it stopped showing picture while the sound is still good. I'll just have to get another DVD of different brand. This one obviously does not last. Will avoid buying Mintek again in the future.
We purchased a Mintek MDP1770 portable DVD player for our daugther a little less than two years ago. The product worked okay for a while, but then we had a problem where the unit wouldn't power up whether we were using AC power or battery. We tried contacting the Mintek customer service number several times. Each time we called during business hours and instead of getting a person we were directed to leave a message in the mail box. Twice when we tried doing this, we got a message that the mailbox was full. Finally on another try we left our contact information and a description of the problem and have never heard back from anyone at Mintek. I would strongly advise against purchasing a product from a company that provides this type of shoddy customer support. I can see from some of the other posts in this forum that I am not the only one to share this viewpoint.
This was given to me as a gift. The owner's manual and rechargeable battery pack were missing. The case was the wrong size and the DVD player did not fit. All I wanted to do was exchange the kit for one that was complete. When all the 3 different stores told me they were out of stock and did not know when more were coming in, I wrote the company hoping to get the problem fixed. I never recieved a response and will never buy a MINTEK item again.
This DVD player is workaholic.
The resone I gave it 4 stars, because after long use the hing for the screen brook off.
I don't understand how these ever made it to market. They are cheaply made in China and they come with virtually NO SOUND. I am not kidding you. I thought it was a good deal since it came with a carrying case but I sure was wrong.
The only good review you will find on these units is from the poor sellers who bought a bunch of them and are trying to sell them as fast as they can before the word gets out that these players are defective !!!
And try to get Protron's customer service to help you! That is a nightmare in itself!

I bought a Protron / Spectron unit at my local Toys R Us store and thought it would be a good idea to use on a family journey to Disney World. I thought it would keep the kids quiet on our long journey but boy was I wrong. All the kids keep saying was daddy turn it up ! The volume was up all the way but it was barely a whisper plus you could hear the chattering of the unit and all times. Very light and cheap. I wish I would have read other reviews on this product before I purchased one. I did take it back with no problems after our trip but learned a lesson. Stay away from this brand and save your self a real headache.
I tested several units at my local store after finding a problem with mine. There simply isn't any volume to these units. If you are deaf and wantng it for close caption it will be fine but if you want to hear anything you better have superman hearing as volume is almost none existant. And after I contacted customer service I was told the website I bought it from was not an authorized dealer therefore no warranty ! Am I suppose to ask the dealers I do business with if I can see their invoices etc ! Give me a break. Safe yourself some frustration and stay away from Protron / Spectron. You will be glad you did !
Amazon to me is the best place to buy items from thay deliverd. returning
