Brings back memories from the old Battleship game when I was a kid. I bought this for my 6 year old and he loves it. It helps him with reasoning and logic trying to figure out his next best move. The electronic version seems to make it a little easier for the younger kids to play.
The only drawback is that when I try to set the game up on its legs, it doesn't lock completely in place and sometimes falls if you push a pin in too hard. You can just leave it flat though and there are no problems. Overall a great game.
Product as described but disappointed that I could have purchased it locally at a cheaper price!
The new version of electronic battleship...in the green box is a lot of fun. The voice that talks to you during the game gets extremely repetitive and there is no way to lower the volume which is a negative. I havent learned all of the versions of the game but it takes me back to my childhood. Good Game!
bought this toy for my nephew for his 9th birthday and he hasn't stopped playing it (this has been for the past two months). The game can be played individually (against the computer) or with another person. There are several different levels of play so kids can continue to be interested/challenged as they master the beginner levels of play. My own children love to play Battleship with my nephew. So far, there have been no problems with the game breaking down. There are, however, many small parts that seem to get strewn around the room, so it might not be ideal for a household with very small children. Overall, he has had many hours of enjoyment with this toy!
...then you'll love this one! Like many reviewers have said, no longer do you have to fear about cheating, especially when playing against your child! A computer now has the job of keeping track of where your ships are
and reporting when the shot you fire is a hit or a miss. However, because of this system it may take longer to set up your ships, if you're not using one of the 100 (or so) preprogrammed fleet formations found in the manual. It has 4 different game modes: classic, salvo (fire until you miss), bonus (one shot per ship you have left), and of course, ADVANCED MISSION! What's so special, you ask? All your ships (except the tiny patrol boat) will get special weapons that can hit multiple spaces at once. You can also launch 2 recon planes from your aircraft carrier and use the submarine's sonar to scan enemy territory for enemy ships. This game, however, gets a 1 star for educational value because one has to admit that Battleship relies almost completely on pure luck. If you happen to be the only one awake at late night or just home alone, you can always play a game with the game computer, selecting from 3 different skill levels. All in all a great buy, and here's the lowdown:
PROS
-computer keeps track of your coordinates
-different sound effects and flashing lights (transmissions from ships, hit/miss/scan reports, etc.)
-game unit can be folded and transported easily
CONS
-the game voice may be hard to understand
-AI could be improved, as it barely ever scans your ships
-keyboard has small keys, and could be located in a more eye-level place (you have to be continually looking down to use it)
-tiny recon planes, easily to misplace
-some pegs on the vertical (upright) grid will be incredibly hard to remove (almost every game i had to use pliers to remove them)
However, you can fix the peg problem by using it on the horizontal (bottom) grid. There's two slots on the ends that you can use to make the grid pop up and push the pegs out from the bottom, greatly easing the pain of removing pegs.
TIPS
-some people have recommended the other version of this game, the one in the green box. apparently the keyboard is directly below the upright grid, and some of the weapons have been changed.
I bought this game because we are trying to spend more time together as a family and we were getting tired of the games we already had. I remember Parcheesi from when I was a kid, so I thought we would give this version a try. (despite those who said they did not like it)
My kids did have fun with it and we have played it almost every day since we got it two weeks ago. They like the animals and they like the board design, easy to play and understand. Even when there are only two of them playing, they seem to have fun with it. This version seems to go faster than I remember regular Parcheesi... maybe less spaces on the board?? I don't know.
I would even play this version with adults.... not for children only!
We did replace the dice with some we had from another game. Nobody liked the feel of these dice for some reason. Other than that... game on!!
We recently gave away our antique board as a wedding gift, and were missing playing this wonderful game. None of the stores carry it any longer, which is a real shame. I was so happy to find it online!
I think most of the reviewers have described the qualities of this game very well. Having grown up on Sorry! and playing Parcheesi for the first time with my own family, I was very pleasantly surprised. We play a lot of board games and I'm careful to look for games that both my kids (ages 9 & 12) can play and enjoy. This one is perfect and my husband and I like it too. One can strategize like my older child, or just bulldoze ahead like my younger. It's rare to find a game that all ages can truly enjoy together. This one's a winner!
My children are 8 years apart in age.....14 and 6, so finding a game they both like is next to impossible. They both love this game and have played it with their grandmother. They thought it was fun and the only complaint I heard was from my 6 year old who said it took a long time to play. But of course, everything's a long time to a 6 yr old. I think I did well purchasing that one.
A year or two ago a friend gave this board to my mother. She is 88 and has moderate dementia. She loves board games and card games - her favorite was dominoes - but they are harder and harder for her to play if they are at all complicated. Plus the person trying to play with her ends up pretty much wanting to run screaming down the street!
However, this board & animal tokens have made a big difference. She loves the board and always wants to use the water buffalo tokens. This actually helps her remember what to do because it is always the same. I can tolerate many more games with her because we can play little pretend games with the animal tokens during the game. It is also reasonable easy to make sure she wins most of the time.
Anyway, this is a long review but I also found that the kids love it as well. The 5 year old is enchanted with the board/tokens. The 9 yr old is having quite a bit of fun with it. I grew up with the old board and the boring little tokens and this is wonderful in comparison.
The item came as described, the price was very good, and I was very happy with the time it took to come.

I have contacted the seller and gotten NO response. DO NOT BUY THIS ITEM if you are looking for a collector's addition. It came with tons of knicks and scratches. It would look nice on the coffee table but since it's so beat up, I am too ashamed to put it out.
We received this game for Christmas this year and love it! Once we figured out how to use the electronic device, it was great fun. Even my husband, who doesn't usually like board games that much, loves it. It goes fast and there is no money to fool around with. Much easier than the old one. It also teaches kids that the best "Life" to live doesn't always mean making money. It also includes enriching things like family, education and travel.
This was bought for my 12 year old daughter and we are really enjoying our time playing it. It is so much better than the original. No writing down numbers, no dealing with tiny pieces. The game moves along quickly and you even get to decide how many turns each person will take. Another thing I love is that you have to stop and get married before you can have a baby. Imagine that!
Overall we really are enjoying this game. The first time was a bit difficult, but we just kept the instructions near by! The real complaint is that we bought it here and now I see the game advertised everywhere at a third of the price we paid ( if you include the s and h). Our own stupidity but my daughter really wanted the game...so.................if we had just waited until the day after Christmas she would have been just as happy and I would have been about $40 richer.
I am very unhappy with this game. The main unit does not work. I rather play the old life game. We could not understand how this works. My grandaughter and I were so disappointed, because we love to play the old Life game and thought this would be fun too.
I would not recommend this game.
I purchased this game to replace my 10 year old daughter's old version!
Somehow the money was always being left out of her old game (or used for other stuff!) We did have to keep the directions handy the first time we played, but it was very easy to use and easy to increase game time. My daughter seemed to "get" the idea that she has to choose education,job, family or fun much better with the new game board layout!
The game was fun and moved quickly, with an opportunity to talk about how expensive life is, and how each day is a choice!
This game is a lot of fun, and while somewhat dependant upon luck as all dice games are, does require skill & planning also. We've enjoyed it a lot, played nearly every day since Christmas. Can't beat the time either, we can easily play in under 30 minutes.
This game was a lot of fun, but explaining the rules took a pretty decent chunk of time. Make sure you have a sheet of scrap paper to keep track of your scores though!
My husband and I used to love playing board games, that is, until we had children. Now, it's hard to find enough time, and a quick game is just what we need. This game presupposes a previous knowledge of Monopoly, suggesting that those who love the original will like this one, too. It is primarily about rolling the dice, and involves no money (which was a bit of a disappointment). On the plus side, not having Monopoly money to play with makes us less competitive and more apt to enjoy the game in a friendly fashion. I would definitely recommend it, and we plan to buy the Scrabble version, too.
Deluxe Parcheesi is the original game and I think this is the one that should be available in stores, not the new one.
Parcheesi is one of the most exciting games you can find now. We went by the name of Ludo. I played it couple years ago and from since then I always one. Now me and my sisters play everyday. What makes it more interesting is we each man pays a quarter for each of his man that is sent back to the beginning (we call it "eat"). I really think you guys should try it one time, you'll see how much more fun it is.
I have been enjoying parcheesi as long as i can remember. It is a game that takes a beating. the only thing that i would make better is the board it doesnt last as long as the pieces do. I have taught my kids alot with this game. They learned to count, to not get frustrated, and also how not to be a sore loser i think every family should own one.
I grew up playing this wonderful game and bought a game for my own family to play many years back. Now that my son has a family of his own, I bought them the current Deluxe version of the game. Were we all very disappointed. The board doesn't just have the center fold, but actual quarter separations on which the rolled diced catch. The cups are too small in ratio to the dice size so that if both dice start to come out at the same time, they catch and don't exit the cup. The green and blue "men" are so dark and close in color that in ordinary ceiling light they are very hard to distinguish from one another (a dot of light paint had to be applied to the tops of one set of men to make the distinction). If only there was a choice of this games makers!
It's one of my favorite games ever. It's really fun trying to block people, land on them or just plain get there first!!!!!!!!!!!!
