Reviews
I bought this DVD player for my 2-yr-old for long trips (air and car travel.) I was leary of some of the comments made about poor audio without the headphones because our daughter does not yet tolerate headphones. This seemed like the best of the reviews in my price range, so I went for it. I am so glad I did. I love this product. Here's what I've found regarding the audio. Location on the airplane is everything. If seated in the very back (loudest) row of the plane, the audio is hard to discern over the roar of the jet engines, just as the person next to you is hard to hear over the engines. However, when seated anywhere else in the plane, the audio is perfectly fine. Even on the wing of the plane, we could hear the audio clearly. We didn't even have to turn it all the way up. It really helped our active toddler pass the time in the confined space of an airplane. Another feature I like is that we do not need to take the remote with us to use the dvd player. There are enough controls on the unit itself to maneuvre where you want to go. The only feature I wish it had is a "Main Menu" button. I can skip backward and forward to various chapters, play, pause, stop, on/off, or if I'm at the Main Menu, I can make selections, but it would be nice to have a button on the unit which would get you to the main menu from any point. That would make it perfect. Otherwise, it is terrific. It has good picture quality, despite little finger prints all over the screen :) and good audio. The battery life is good, although I recommend disconnecting it when not in use as the indicator light is continuously on and slowly discharges the battery. The case is snug and works best if using either the power adapter or car charger without the battery. Overall, it meets our needs wonderfully.
I purchased this DVD player for a family road trip. Given that the sole reason I purchased it was so that my children could watch DVDs in the car, I have been somewhat disappointed. The power supply jack is loose, so the DVD player occasionally turns off while operating. This, of course is not received well by the children. Additionally, the headphone jacks are loose causing intermittent audio. Given that this unit comes with a case for securing it to a vehicle head rest, it certainly does NOT seem to have been designed with vehicle vibration in mind. It seems that the vehicle mounting was an afterthought, rather than designed in. I'm sure it is a great player when stationary, but not in motion.
This is a great DVD player if you don't mind that the car adapter will not stay plugged in. It loses power constantly! Then my 10 month old's video cuts off.... which means mom has to restart or ff back to where she left off. It is awful!!! I have tried the car adapter in a Lexus, Ford, Mazda, Pontiac and Mercedes..(we travel a lot) The plug worked the same in all of them. I would not recommend this DVD, and if I could return it I would!!!!

We own two of these and they do work fine, except a battery has gone bad on one of the players after one year.

I have been unable to find a replacement battery and was informed buy RCA that they don't even list the part number. (It appears that Radio Shack sells a Universal Battery for Portable DVD Players, but it sure won't attach to this player like the original one does. It would just be a loose battery pack.)

I don't know if this is true for all DVD players, but it sure is a big disappointment with this one.

The DVD player is a fine unit for the price paid. It comes with everything you need to travel via automobile. The drawbacks are that the case will only hold the unit sans battery and accessory cables making an additional carrying case necessary. Headphone are needed in just about any vehicle as the speakers on the unit will only be sufficeint in a quiet setting. The only weak link on the unit seems to be the clasp on the disc lid. Seemingly, it feels as though regular use would be to much for it though it has not failed yet (three plays).
Overall, I like it as you dont need the remote for all features to be utilized, but it is mighty convienient when you need to press play from the front seat to the back.
Here is the translation for the Spanish review:
This equipment is innovating, of very good quality, with many functions as he is reader of DVD and the power to see in your own vehiculo with any screen the channels of your local zone
Este equipo es innovador, de muy buena calidad, con muchas funciones como es lector de DVD y el poder ver en tu propio vehiculo con cualquier pantalla los canales de tu zona local...
I bought this for the same reason as most people - to entertain the kids on long car rides. I bought my unit and an additional screen, and it was nice to be able to put one screen in the middle row of my minivan and another in the 3rd row. To that end, the unit was perfect - reasonably priced, easy to set up and take apart, and storage in the bag was a snap, fitting the unit, all the necessary cables, the renmote, and both screens.

I use the device very lightly, basically that amounts to 2 times a year, once while driving 2 hours down the shore and a second time driving back home. I have kept it in its bag and never left it in the car in the heat or cold, etc. So basically I've used it 4 times in 2 years - OK, 5 times if you count once testing it in my house. And now its dead - it powers on, starts a DVD and dies - shutting itself off about 1-2 minutes into the DVD.

I called Audiovox and they are useless, saying the device cannot be repaired, as they no longer stock parts for it. How can you no longer stock parts for an item you made only a couple of years ago.....avoid this piece of junk and I would assume avoid all Audiovox products. If thye don't stock parts as soon as they stop making a product, you can't get it repaired, so if they won't invest in their products, why should you??
We bought this a couple of years ago for $400+ On our first trip out it gave problems with the picture intermittently washing out where it was barely visible. I remember pulling over on the I-15 freeway to try to fix it. After 15 minutes we gave up, and then all of a sudden it started working correctly again. It was like it needed to heat up or something. Now after not using it much because of the intermittent problem, I tried it again. The picture is still washed out. If the screen was watchable, it'd be a great unit. The sound is good. The bag is good. I left it on the front curb for someone to fiddle with.
I had purchased this item from Circuit City several years ago for almost $500. We have been pleased with the purchase and made our 11 hour road trips with the kids easier. I always wanted a second monitor and until I found this item, I could never justify the price. This item was shipped new in the display box, looks like it has never been opened. I am using the monitor with my original unit. You cannot beat the price and it works great, easy to use and it arrived way before the due date. Do it!
I bought this last March for a road trip with the additional screen. I read some questionable reviews but I saw the Eddie Bauer version and bought it. Three days ago I put it in the car for a road trip and what do I hear as I put a DVD to test it....some very funny noises...when the noises stopped the DVD player read NO disc...when the disc came out it was scratched up. I called Audiovox...it only has a 90 day warranty so I have to pay $85 to get it fixed...funny that it is a flat fee...no examination required....

Anyways, all I can say it was not that great of a player from the start. Skip this one and look at another DVD player...maybe even build your own system with screens and a higher quality DVD player.

have to wiggle and bend power cord to get it to work if your luckyit will work for 5 minutes.have owned for about a year.more frustation than its worth.having to pull over and fix all the time.mine got thrown out the window on i90.next one definatly wont be audiovox..
Just go and buy the double cord that looks like a headphone jack and plug that into your aux outlet in your car. I wish I didn't get this product at all. I will never use a fm transmitter again!!
I bought this product for my Sansa e260. I had read things like "CD quality," and "works great!" These couldn't be further from the truth. Remember the days of cassette tapes where you would listen to your favorite tape 1,000 times? That's what it sounds like...and that's provided you don't have any interference. You have to turn up your sound system so loud that if you accidentally switch modes to CD for instance, you will undoubtedly blow your speakers. This product sucks.

I have finally found a FM transmitter that works great! I have an iPod, and the connection is strong. It works just as good as a hardwired connection.
This is the best FM trans. I have found. The FM range is far greater having the top tier and bottom tier stations. Its so powerful it takes out existing stations in LA. I believe the customer below tried to plug in the iPod connector in their Zune. The 3.5mm jack goes into the headphone jack of your Zune, GPS, or whatever. It seems to only charge the ipod and will not charge my Zune.
I bought this for my Zune MP3 player. The transmitter head that was "supposed" to fit into the Zune wasn't even close to fitting. My guess was that it was to fit the Ipod. If you own a Zune, DON'T BUY! It won't fit!
The player worked great and was a decent deal for the money... Had a couple problems though.... I would put in a dvd and it would sound like the player was tearing itself apart figured out that the wiring was screwy and i fixed that so it worked perfectly... I really hate the "safety" feature on the device which makes it so you have to put parking brake on/off/on/off/on (quickly i found works better) and leave it for 10 secs before the actuall picture would go through or you have to do it again. I found if you just ground the cable to the frame (test if there's any current going through frame, OR THIS WONT WORK!!!!) wire a spare wire/cable to frame then wire the other end to a switch and the other side of the switch to the yellow ground cable they give you that goes into stereo. Then to play movies just flick the switch franticly and then turn to "off" position it should play unless you did something wrong. I did it because I dont know about you but using the brake is a hassle and if your on a hill its just a pain to do... just be smart DONT PLAY MOVIES WHILE YOU'RE DRIVING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And a couple more things is that the screen is very touchy and will crack easy. and the motor that makes screen come out usually will die after a year of use. BUY THE INSURANCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! $40 for 4 years is worth the cost!!! I used to work at Best Buy and this item (and almost all dual and kenwood) has the highest return rate. Dont say i didnt warn you when it dies in a year maybe two if your lucky, and then you've basically thrown $400 away.
I bought this dual 8182 in Jan o7 and never really played dvd's or cd's since I use my ipod for music video's and music. I decided to put a dvd in today-months after, only to find out the thing does not accept any kind of disc it just keeps ejecting repeatedly after failing to read them,so for anyone who's looking at a dual and c's my review please take warning its not worth the risk even for the cheap price.
This Dvd player is great, it looks pretty and its very easy to use.
I love it.
Thanks!
I received mine and installed. It has good sound even with my car's stock speakers. The screen has very low resolution and on high lightning days is hard to see. The really bad news were that its touch screen is crazy or something. It doesnt work correctly, some commands doesn't work. In ipod mode in order to navigate I push over and over the root botton on the screen and it simply restarts the current song. I hope amazon refunds to me. I buyed this because its lot of features (ipod control) and cause it is cheap too. But take this advice. Stay away for it. In forums very few people talk or know anything about it. It is a ultra low end product. Thats the reason similar products cost double cash. I wrote to manufacturer asking for support 2 weeks ago and still waiting for answer.
Install was fairly easy and the DVD player works well. The remote is hard to use as all the buttons feel the same and are arranged in a grid.
If you plan to use the remote in the dark you need to turn on a light to see it first.

The MP3 DVD/CD option is nice and the capacity to hold 1500 songs on a DVD is awesome. However the shuffle option is poor and it won't play songs listed higher than #250 during the shuffle. Even if you place the MP3's into folders it looks at all of them as they were loaded into one giant folder and stays below #250 during shuffle.

The ability to play from an iPod and use the adapter works well.

The touch screen has the ability to brighten and dim but the stereo face when the screen is closed is bright blue. It doesn't dim and is often distracting.

All in all I like this product but think that it lacks a lot of the small things that would make it more user friendly.
I'm using this dvd player in my show car and i get compliments daily. Comes with all the installation intructions and parts for multiple setup options. Easy to use and has a full function remote so it can be controlled fully from outside the ride.
Excellent equipment, with the quality Sony, great versatility with its movil screen, I recommend it totally.
