I was so excited when I first saw this toy advertised! My husband and I have a small collection of Monopoly games, so thius seemed like the perfect gift this Christmas. We opened before Christmas though- we just couldnt wait! I really liked that the game was so much less messy without all the paper money. The problem I had with it was that my husband, the banker, always knew how much money I had, and I felt a loit less in control of my money. We ended up passing the "credit card machine" back and forth and that helped a little. It was just not as interactive without the paper money and the game got boring really fast. Maybe we will try it out again and change our minds, but for now it will sit in the game closet with the rest of the monopoly games.
since you are paying with credit, when you are the banker it seems like you are sliding the card every second. I mean with regular paper cash, you are taking some time collecting and sorting the money, but it kind of gets to worn out with the credit. I use to like to be the banker, but now I don't wish to be the banker. But it's a fun game.
The game is very fun and the kids absolutely love playing it. It is more friendly to use than the one with all the paper money and it actually keeps track of your money for you. This is so great as even my 4 year old can play it.
I haven't always been a fan of this game, and hadn't played the game in so long till now, but i am very impressed. The new properties are great, and the electronic money counter works great, and is easy to use. Using a debit card is like a whole new experience for the game. It just doesn't make the time of the game go any faster, but that's not really important.
I really like this game and would recommend it to anyone, but don't buy it here! We got it at Toys-R-Us today for $29.99!!
PROS:
This version of Monopoly is fun and has a great interface. The pieces move around the board for you and have neat 3-D animations (the ship fires its guns, the shoe walks, the top-hat has a rabbit that pops out). There is even a paddy wagon that hauls your token off to jail. You can also customize the game so that you earn cash for landing on Free Parking, make x2 the amount for landing on GO, and choose whether or not to automatically deal all the properties at the beginning of the game.
CONS:
While this version is "multiplayer," you CANNOT play online, which was available in previous versions of Monopoly. This was a big disappointment.
We bought this in order to start a new tradition for our 11 year daughter on Family Fun Night. It is neat, updated version. We miss the "kitty" on "FREE PARKING" with the new version. But, the money amounts are more realistic than the original and there are airports, instead of railroads. The Community Chest and Chance haven't changed much, except for money amounts.
The utilities are now internet services. Luxury tax is now income tax.
Some of the updated playing pieces are a Labradoodle, New Balance tennis shoe, airplane, Starbuck's mug, laptop and cellphone.
We find it annoying that you have to separate the money before putting the game up. It won't fit in the box when it is still in the bankers plastic area.
Overall, we think this is still a great game, maybe even better than the original~!
Its a good change from the classic version.
Pros:-
-Millions and Billions of dollars transacted , so it does improve calculations.
-New and Modern places. (Times Square, White House , Hollywood)
-Better Houses and Hotels
-Innovative tokens.
Cons:-
-Those who are used to the classical game might find the transition difficult but onces used to this , you will love this one.
I really like this new twist on an old favorite. My children, 13 and 6 enjoy playing this game immensely. The pieces are fun and recognisable such as Starbucks, McDonalds Fries, New Balance shoes, a jet, etc. The places are also recognisable such as Times Square and Wakiki Beach. The game concept is pretty much the same, with the spaces having the same function as the original Monopoly. The only part we really found confusing was the money part. Especially when you are having to pay 10% tax, or mortgage several properties. It can get confusing with dealing with millions at a time. I wished they had kept the money part the same as the original, as millions of dollars at a time serve no purpose.
I got this game free with my purchase and thought I would give it away for a gift. My son asked to keep it, and I am so glad he did! We really had a great time playing! It seemed so much less "cluttered" as we played due to the way they designed the new game. My kids were even noting places and we had great conversations about the different locations that they had on the board. I would definitely recommend this game even if you already have the older version like we do!
This is a standard monopoly game; and while every monopoly game has a theme or twist to it, I have found this version to be extremely educational. Not only do prices, interest, and income finally reflect the new milenimum, but also the player pieces and property names.
My children love this game, and especially this version. I've played it a few times and it has some great improvements compared to the original. It's also multi player so it's a great way to get three kids to share the computer. Also, compared to most other computer games, this one is very educational.
I'm buying another copy to give as a Christmas present to a nephew.
Well The kids get boring and outside was to much heat so here came the help Monopoly Here & Now they have hours + hours playing together o alone with the computer also they play with me that was great.
i think its great i have played it every day sence i got it. I injoy the game.
This game is fun to play and the more recent additions make it an interesting update to a classic favorite!
This is a really fun game, a fresh new approach to the standard game, lots of fun to play.
It's a great twist on the usually monopoly game. Got it for a friend that loves both disney and monopoly and we played it twice. Loved the pieces and the property titles, fun for anyone who loved the classic monopoly.
We all know Monopoly is one of the "foundation games" of our society. We have pretty much all grown up with it. The Disney edition is spectacular in its design and totally makes it fun to play with the characters. My daughter is an adult and loved it! I love it too!
It's a wonderful board game. My daughter loves it and she never gets bored playing.
My grandchildren and I enjoy the Disney motif of this Monopoly game. They relate to the properties, card instructions and generally artistic setting. It IS still Monopoloy, however, so for a complete win, the length of play time looms long.
I spent too much money when I purchased this two years ago. BUT...We play this game at least once a week if not a lot more. This has become our girls' favorite game. Sometimes we bid on the properties and sometimes when time is short, we shuffle them and deal them out. We love to trade properties with each other. My girls have learned a lot about counting money and each likes to take their turn as the banker and the property manager. I have girls who range in age of 2 - 10 and each likes to play. Now granted our 2 year old doesn't play for the whole time, but she is even learning the money value and who goes with what property. This is an awesome value. Thanks DISNEY, you have taken some of the magic from Disney World itself and transported it into this game.
This game can be played with children younger than 8 as well with modified rules (that simplifies the pricing, etc.). A strategy and negotiation game that plays faster with fewer people. Best w/ 3-4
people that can multi-task.
This is one of my favorite board games ever, I love playing against my father and he is very good! This is a good way to learn to save your money and buy real estate!
You have got to love this classic game of monopoly! What home is complete with out it! Tons of people can get in and play this game for hours. It's a time occupier and its fun to do also! Family, friends, and this classic game is just filled with fun, fun, fun! Everyone needs their own set, don'tcha know. I know I love mine and I use it all of the time to entertain guests. Monopoly is a great ice breaker when you have new people over. You really get to know them fast.
This game is an all time favorite with most everyone, it is a classic. I wanted this vintage game as it first came out years ago when I was a little girl, and through Amazon I fould what I was looking for.
Monopoly is Good In Many Ways And These Deluxe Editions I've Heard About
The're So Great I Have A Freind That Has One I Played It I Felt Bad Playing It The Real Monopoly Feels Better More Normal My Only Con About This Game Is I DONT LIKE THESE HOUSES AND HOTELS Turn Them Into Wood Please !
If You Want This Very Decent Monopoly Game Or You Want This Cheesy Deluxe Edition Go Ahead . Thank You
Great game, that is very playable in this computer game format. Love the animation and personality of the pieces. Also love the low cost of this game. Get it, you can't go wrong for the price.
I LOVE THIS GAME!!!!! MONOPOLY IS SO COOL BUT THIS AMAZING!!!!! I LOVE THIS GAME 5 STARS!!!!!!
Younger kids will probably like the animation and audio. Tokens are hard to see and property prices could be more easily accessible.
I really enjoy playing this game! Glad I purchased it!
I believe that if you looked at all the brand name games out there (therefore taking non-brand name games like chess, checkers and backgammon), there is no game out there more popular than Monopoly. Although it may be popular for over seventy years, there have been very few books about it. Philip Orbanes has written one of the few exceptions, The Monopoly Companion.
Actually, the gimmick of the book is that it is actually Mr. Monopoly who is telling the book to Orbanes. Mr. Monopoly is the wealthy gentleman who appears in the Monopoly logo as well as several Chance and Community Chest cards; I always knew him as Rich Uncle Pennybags, but apparently Parker Brothers changed the name recently. And though the first part of the book presents a history of the game, somehow this old name is omitted completely.
After the history, there is an explanation of the rules of the game. There are official rules and then there are the house rules that we all use to tweak the game, probably most commonly by placing money on the Free Parking spot. After the rules, we get to the heart of the book: a breakdown of all the properties and their relative values and some strategies. The value of a particular monopoly (a color group, the railroads or the utilities) are based on several factors including cost of acquisition, how frequently they are landed on, how expensive they are to develop and how quickly they pay back in rent the money spent on them. Another factor is what point the game is at: a monopoly may be more valuable earlier in the game than later.
After these sections, the book goes into Monopoly parties and tournaments and even gives the reader a quiz. Overall, this is an interesting book but not great. For one thing, the Mr. Monopoly gimmick wears thin rather quickly. Also, playing Monopoly is more fun than reading about others playing it, so the tournament narratives are just so-so. It is the middle of the book that redeems the book, however, giving insights that may have not occurred to many players. If you're a fan of Monopoly, this book is a reasonably good and inexpensive acquisition; even with its flaws, it offers enough of value to merit a low four stars.
Everyone has a Monopoly set somewhere at home. If you're like me your set of instructions disappeared long ago and was only a sheet of paper with small font at best anyway. This book explains all the rules in great detail. I never knew there was a limit on the number of houses and hotels and that when there aren't enough green houses you couldn't just fork out the monetary value for a hotel. The age old debate of does free parking collect all the taxes and whoever lands on it gets the money is answered as well. The answer is no by the way. This is a great handy guide for any arguments about the rules.
Even if you already know all of the rules this is still a pretty good purchase. Inside is a heap of trivia such as the names of all the characters on the board and cards, the fact that Parker Bros prints 50 billion dollars of Monopoly money each year and the fact that on average each player makes about $175 dollars around the board. A comparison of the Monopoly properties and what those streets are actually like in the real Atlantic City both when the game was invented and today is very interesting reading along with the predecessors to Monopoly and other historical information. There are also tips on how to play from Mr Monopoly including which are the best properties to purchase. This is an excellent little book for anyone who enjoys playing the best board game ever invented.
Playing Monopoly can be a long endeavor, especially if you play with people who don't know the official rules. If you have endured such hardship, you could recommend this guide to such beginning players. This book basically gives a lot of tips to the game that most novice players don't know. One of these tips is knowing which monopolies are the most powerful on the board (and it's not Park Place and Boardwalk most of the time!). It is entertaining and can be easily read in one afternoon. There is quite a bit of filler, though, if you just want to get to the nitty-gritty of how to improve your play. His "interview format" with Uncle Moneybags is humorous, but can drag on if you're just in the market for how to become a Monopoly master. In the end, it's an enjoyable book for most beginners and intermediate players, but can irritate a player who is quite familiar with the game and just looking to get to the highest levels of gameplay.
I recomend this book to anyone and everyone who plays Monopoly. It is a fun read while at the same time giving great stats and tips as to how to play the game. Ever since I read the book, I rarely lose (pretty much only lose to my brothers who have also read it or to friends who ally against me to stand a chance). I've found that it is a fine companion book, and does fine to supplement the official rules(so I put it in my monopoly box and leave the rules with the sets I don't use). It may have editorial errors...but the "error" that the disgruntled reader pointed out is not an error...the "second player to your left" is the same as the "second player following" unless you're going counterclockwise...because after you take a turn, the "first player to your left" goes...followed by the second player to your left...so I don't see the problem there. The only problem I have with it, is that I follow the rules too carefully, so now when I talk about building shortages or making deals between others turns my friends think I'm making up rules. Go get this book and enjoy!
The book says "Mr. Monopoly reveals everything he knows about the world's most popular board game. 'And that, quite frankly is everything.'" Not quite. There are errors in the book (compared to the official Parker Brother's rules). Given that the author was (supposedly) the Chief Judge at the National and World Monopoly Tournaments from 1979 through 1992 (book bio) it is inconceivable that he didn't know the rules, so I think it is just a lack of attention to detail. Yet when you are holding yourself out as an "expert" this is inexcusable. Proofread the book. Edit the book. For example, one mistake occurs on the pages 34-35, "Paying Rent." They say there are two instances when you can't collect rent one of which is when you do not ask for it within a certain time limit. The time limit during which an opponent must pay rent is before the "second player to your left." This is clearly incorrect, it is the second player to *your opponent's* left. This whole section is mismatched, saying "your left" instead of your opponent's left. It is almost as if they didn't proofread it or didn't know the rules. (The Rules:"The owner may not collect the rent if they fail to ask for it before the second player following throws the dice.") And this isn't the only spot with problems. There are little things like this which people won't catch and will be misled. If you are interested in some of the history, then fine, it is reasonably accurate. ;-) . If you want play tips and have much experience at the game, it is NOT worth it. The tips provided are common sense, there is perhaps one tip that a beginner might find useful. And there is even no index (how hard is it to have an index?). In short the book is disappointing and if you are looking for a book with substance about Monopoly, this is not it. Maxine Brady's book (not published now) is better, but still not a complete treatment.
This product was fantastic. It was a hit with all of my friends. We love monopoly and we love spongebob so buying spongebopoly was the absolute right choice. It's fun for all ages. It has houses and hotels, giant character pieces, money, deeds, and chance and community chest cards. It's great.
I never thought I could get my four young nieces to sit through a full game of Monopoly, but they managed to do it, and quite willingly at that, when SpongeBob was involved! They had so much fun identifying the properties highlighting their favorite episodes, not to mention "being" their favorite characters. Since SpongeBob has become a bit of a universal cultural symbol, even the older family members who haven't seen the show were able to enjoy the references.
What really surprised me was the educational value of this game. Although young ones usually get bored just thinking of Monopoly, they loved developing strategies, managing their money, and most of all, conspiring together against the adults. Even in just a few hours -- and they really did last the whole four (yes, four!) -- you could see their money-counting skills getting better and their strategies becoming more advanced. I don't think they realized for a moment that they were doing any of this, which made it even better. They were too busy giggling and having fun.
The girls can't wait to play again, and I have to admit that I may be looking forward to it even more than they are. This is a great game, and I plan to buy another set to keep here at the house for when they visit!
(Also, the only so-so rating I can give the game is a "3" when it comes to durability, because -- let's face it -- putting paper money in the hands of excited children is going to equal some crumpling every time. That's just the way it goes!)
My grandchildren enjoy this edition of Spongebob Monoply. It created a lot of competitve fun. They even had this "grandma" playing it with them and I had forgotten a lot about the game.
This is old fashioned monopoly with SpongeBob characters. We appreciated the quality of the product, it was well made. My 11 year old daughter loves playing this game! Like traditional monopoly, this game can go on for hours. We just chose to set a time limit instead of continuing until our money ran out.
Great twist on an old favorite. Kids love Spongebob and Monopoly is a great family fun game and it teaches them stuff ta boot! All the little details of the game are great. Kids fight over who gets which game piece but in the end we all had fun.
I bought this game for my 6 year old hockey player but thought he wouldn't be able to play it. We play it non stop. Everything is hockey oriented. We have turned it into a learning experience. He has to add the dice together before he can move and try and read the cards the best he can. We have since bought for several people as gifts!!
I love this version of monopoly. The teams stick very well to the board and deed cards. The only thing that could be better is that the banker's tray could be deeper for the deed cards.
This is a great version on Monopoply. I got it as a gift for my husband and he loved that you can customize the game to the teams that you like, and change it up as you see fit. A great buy for any hockey fan!
This is a great game for the hockey nut in your family. My son got it for christmas and we have played it 6 times already!
Monopoly - Here and Now is a great update of this classic game. The game is easy to play and fun for solo players or a group. There are a variety of options and players can customize the game easily. Lots of fun.
My 5 year old daughter and her 6 year old cousin love this game. My husband and I love it too. I have always loved the grown up version, but like other reviewers have said, it is a little brutal for young kids. I think this version is great as it teaches basic math (you have to pay double? you are only adding 3 plus 3) and is more fun from a kid perspective - what kid cares about owning Boardwalk when they could have the roller coaster?? Also, I think the reviewers who are complaining that this game doesn't involve strategy are forgetting the most important rule of board games: you can change the rules. That's the funnest part of Monopoly. It's your game after all, why can't you say to your kid that they are allowed to choose whether to buy a ticket booth or not? Hello, this is America, make your own rules. Duh!
I bought this for my husband' birthday because he loves Monopoly and wanted a game to play with our 4 year old daughter. She is a little angry the bank and my husband keep taking her money, but she likes the activities they have on the board that you pay for, like watching fireworks, going to a water park, etc... things that in real life we do and pay for that she sees as a special treat.
The box was fairly flimsy- it was bent during shipping, hence the durability marking being lower. The pieces seem like they will hold up, but the money and cards are made out of the same materials as the original monopoly, so with younger kids they may end up being ripped. The other thing I would have liked is for the pieces to have come in resealable bags. We have already ziplocked each set of players items to make sure we don't lose too many. There also is no plastic money divider for the banker like I remember the original having. That would have been another nice thing to include.
Overall- my husband and daughter are pleased to have a game to play together.
My 5 year old Loves this game. It is a great beginning for learning about money, adding and subtracting, and it is a much faster version than the traditional monopoly...(it doesn't take more than 30-45 min Max to play)!!
This is a great game that's fun for the adults in the family as well as the kids. My 5yr old caught on very fast and enjoys just as much as we do.
What I didn't like about this game was that it left the player without many choices at all. Land on a space and you must buy the ticket booth. Thinking about it, I think occasionally you may get to make a decision with a chance card, but otherwise, it all depends on the roll of the die. What the kids and I DO like about it, however, is that it is fun. Somehow, more fun than a simple game of chance should be. A nice way to spend an evening with my boys, 4 and 6.
Considering the money you can spend on toys these days, this is well worth the ten bucks or so!
I read all the reviews on Amazon and decided to get the game anyway because it was cheap. Overall, the slowness of the gameplay makes the game unplayable. Every time you roll the dice the screen animates to follow the dice rolling, moves back to your gamepiece, and then follows it as it moves to each spot (10-12 seconds). Playing the game in person or on other systems (Gameboy, PC), dice rolling takes around 5 seconds. That sounds pretty picky to break it down by the second but just imagine a normal game of Monopoly taking twice as long because of dice rolling. That's what you get with this game.
If anyone disagrees, please post a review about how you enjoy watching dice roll and pieces moving for 45 minutes of a 90 minute game. (No, you cannot turn off the animation.)
Great price for a classic game. Easy to use/learn. You won't find some amazing graphics on it that you would expect from some games contemporary but you don't need them since this is a board game. It gaves you a cool break when playing some other more addivtive games that take more time to finish.
I have tried for HOURS to completely finish 1 SINGLE GAME. I have tried to trade more than once, and NOTHING HAPPENS. After trying to trade, i get frusterated, and don't feel like playing anymore. If I didn't have to deal with that, this game would be easier.
This is hands down the WORST port of monopoly I have ever encountered.
monopoly is rarely a game enjoyed by small children, so why not give us more options?!
I don't need stupid animations for movement, the game is SOOO SLOWW.. I'd like to finish TODAY! and to add insult to that, there is NO SAVE FEATURE.
Wasted effort, waste of money.
Do not buy this product.
I like this monopoly game because you can take it with you. It's like plying a real monopoly game.
Love Monopoly, love Spiderman too? I have a suggestion! The new Spiderman Monopoly Edition has come out! I'm a great fan of Spiderman and with this new game, I was sure to have it! I know you will be just as satisfied as I was when I received it. It's filled with apartments and sky scrapers, making sure you get the best converted Monopoly yet.
